Today’s sermon which was taken from Matthew 5:13, underscores the vital role Christians play in the world. Just as salt preserves meat, preventing decay and spoilage, we are called to be a preserving force in a world susceptible to corruption and decline.
Our faith, grounded in love and compassion, should act as a counterbalance to the negativity and decay that often threaten to overwhelm us. We are called to be a positive influence, to bring hope and healing to a world in need. Our actions, our words, and our very presence should reflect the transformative power of the Gospel, demonstrating the goodness and grace of God.
However, Jesus warns that if we lose our saltiness, our faith becomes ineffective, losing its ability to preserve and transform. We must actively cultivate our faith, nurturing its inherent goodness and ensuring that it remains a potent force for good in the world. Just as salt loses its purpose if it loses its saltiness, so does our faith become ineffective if it loses its ability to bring hope and healing to a world in need.
